What you’ll be responsible for


 

We've got an exciting new role available for an ambitious Drone Pilot to join our growing Aerial Services team that supports the business by providing services through the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), also known as drones. You'll be part of our country-wide deployment team providing drone inspection, survey, and response services on a range of tasks such as asset surveys, building inspections and working with operations for incident support.

 

The UAV Drone Pilot will be the supervisor for each UAV operation they are tasked with, and sometimes this can involve the delegation to an observer and clear instructions for any present site staff.  Sometimes, you will be operating by yourself, with complete control over site setup and safe operations. It's a fast-paced and exciting role, but our work is rewarding.

 

When you are not flying, you'll be working from home/office planning tasks, organising and processing data, building on new procedures and finding innovative new ways and new technology to carry out bespoke tasks, and liaising with all operational departments to provide more efficient deliverables to aid them with they’re job requirements.

 

As the UAV Drone Pilot this will include:

 

•    Supporting the Aerial Services Manager in the delivery of all operations including trialing and introducing further innovations within the company.
•    Working closely with colleagues and managers across the business to give UAV/Drone advice and support where needed – acting as a trusted advisor to colleagues and senior managers alike to produce reductions in risk and increases in business efficiencies.
•    Supervising each operation of the UAV/Drone.
•    Completing the pre-flight risk assessment and mitigating any risks where possible.
•    Having confidence that the flight can be conducted safely and the competence to perform all required tasks. This will include internal as well as external surveying of assets.
•    Ensuring that the aircraft used is airworthy by completing the pre-flight checklist.
•    Briefing all crew members prior to a flight to ensure they understand their responsibilities. Communicating with clients as required to understand the required task, this includes Capital Framework Alliance Partners.
•    Planning each flight in advance and ensuring the right resources are available when required. Ensuring that the welfare of themselves or others is not compromised by any planned operations. 
•    Operating the aircraft within the stated limitations for that aircraft.
•    Completing all required paperwork such as pilot & aircraft hours, battery log etc. after a flight.
•    Staying abreast of all regulatory changes from the UK CAA and ensuring all operations can be made compliantly with our Operational Authorisation.
•    Meeting with and presenting to many departments throughout the business to show the benefits of UAV/Drones,
•    exploring opportunities within the departments and presenting results and findings from the work completed.

About you

 

Qualifications

•    UK Commercial Drone Pilot qualification such as PfCO or GVC (GVC Desirable)
•    UK Driving License
•    Confined Space Entry 

 

Experience

•    Experience in operating UAVs/Drones
•    Experience of working in an Operational Support Service environment with a broad understanding of Welsh Water’s activities
•    Track record in engaging employees in new ways of working and driving improvements, also building relationships and internal partnerships to form programs of work - Desirable.
•    Sound knowledge of IT, systems, technology and networks to be utilise existing opportunities and identify new methods of working.
•    Knowledge & Skills around commercial drone use applications – Desierable.
•    Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day – internal and external.
•    A keen learner with the ability to digest information quickly, read and adapt to changing environments, and reflect on all activities to identify areas for improvement.
•    A strong team player with the ability to manage operational sites efficiently. 
•    Excellent interpersonal skills to establish rapport, credibility, and relationships across Welsh Water
•    Ability to manage your own workload, prioritising to suit the business and deliver against deadlines.

•    Excellent presentation skills 
•    High quality report writing
•    Experience in completing risk assessments.
