UAS/Drone Flight Operations Technician - Site Scan for ArcGIS

Overview

Site Scan for ArcGIS is a mobile application enabling automated and repeatable drone data captures in order to perform reality mapping and inspection across the ArcGIS system, Site Scan for ArcGIS allows users to plan safe and optimal flight paths using their GIS content, execute automated missions using a variety of drones to collect images and video, maintain records of drone, battery and pilot flight activity, and publish content to colleagues within their organization.

As part of our Site Scan for ArcGIS UAS/UAV/Drone test flying team, you’ll leverage your drone flying experience to test and evaluate our mobile app and ensure quality across Esri's fleet of supported drones. The team will have opportunities to share new ideas for testing and flying drones to ensure we uphold a high standard of accuracy and performance for our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Commute locally via company or personal vehicle to open flying area 3 to 4 times a week to pilot and test the supported fleet of drones using the latest version of Site Scan for ArcGIS
  • Execute functional and non-functional test cases and fill in test executions assigned per testing cycle using provided guidelines
  • Validate bug fixes by following reproduction steps and adding comments using provided guidelines
  • Clearly communicate with Software Development and Product Engineering teams regarding bug reporting, improvement recommendations, and testing implementation
  • Carefully maintain all drones and drone-related hardware required for field testing
  • Document user experience interactions, including test results and traceability between test cases and product requirements

Requirements

  • 3+ years UAS/UAV/Drone piloting experience creating repeatable flight plans that capture high-quality and accurate imagery
  • Understanding and application of safety risk analysis when creating repeatable flight plans and test flying and ability to appropriately mitigate incidents
  • Knowledge and skills in aerodynamics and aviation safety including weather considerations
  • Display of ethical airmanship
  • Strong verbal communication and written documentation skills so that complex information can be presented in a clear and simple format
  • Effective teamwork skills to generate shared ideas and execute team responsibilities in a consistent way
  • A keen eye for details and motivation to keep those details organized
  • Valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and the ability to drive to open flying areas

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience in GIS
  • Experience writing and executing manual test cases
  • Experience using test case management tools, such as TestQuality or TestRail
  • Understanding of the Agile software development life cycle
  • Familiarity with project management tools, such as GitHub or ZenHub
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or a related technical field
  • FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is$19.55$35 USD
