We are currently seeking a Drone Pilot Test Engineer to work with engineering to test and verify the efficacy and safety of our custom drone-based data collection system.  The pilot would also help us understand the usefulness of controls and systems and give useful feedback in order to improve the system.  Additionally, this person would help with release and training documentation to be provided to other pilots out in the field, help coordinate software and hardware releases and to help troubleshoot field issues and determine if issues are engineering related.  Finally, this person would help us train the pilot trainers on the proper use of our software and systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and perform ground and flight operations
  • Remote-pilot a drone, following specific flight plans or obtaining useful footage
  • Conduct flight demonstrations
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight safety checks
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Ensure compliance with all FAA regulations
  • Collect aerial data to help engineering teams solve problems and develop new functionality
  • Test new software features to enhance flight operations and data capture
  • Give feedback to enhance flight operation and data capture software

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Based in the Austin Texas Area
  • Availability to Travel
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Completion of training or a degree in aviation, engineering, or a related field
  • Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA (UAS Part 107 license)
  • Comfortable operating a UAS in various weather and light conditions
  • Comfortable operating a UAS with customized software in a safe manner
  • Comfortable working with engineering teams to collaborate on and execute test plans
  • Excellent communication skills
