Drone Pilot Technician

  • Draft test plan and analyze test flight missions for prototype drone/UAV with atypical aircraft geometry. Perform pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight checks and update procedures
  • Provide test equipment programming and piloting support to Program Manager and/or mid-level Engineering personnel in the areas of drone test set-up, test report status and results
  • Ensure and guide test crew in general safety requirements and compliance with all FAA regulations
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of RC aircraft transmitters, receivers, model mixes, drone troubleshooting skills, and flight dynamics
  • Participate in multiple missions a week and/or weekends, with access to FRIA airfield within Weber and Tooele County
  • Ensure all flight operations follow FAA regulations and general safety standards; guide test crew on best practices
  • Provide ongoing advice on aviation-related matters, including airspace regulations, waiver needs, and risk mitigation
  • Assist in UAV assembly, configuration, and troubleshooting, including inventory and component tracking
  • Utilize flight execution and ground control software such as Q Ground Control, Mission Planner, and ATAK UAS tool
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education/Training:

    • Associate’s Degree in management or technical/scientific discipline required
    • Active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate preferred

Experience:

    • 3+ years of professional experience in the required task area required
    • Drone/UAS test pilot experience required
    • Aircraft operations and maintenance experience desired

Security:

    • Must be a US citizen
    • Ability to obtain a security clearance may be required

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to assess, install, and modify equipment, and inspect machinery
  • Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, grasp and reach with hands and arms, handle and operate hand/power tools and machine controls
  • Perform frequent wrist, hand, and finger movements
  • Prolonged periods of standing while operating machinery
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate safety gear (e.g., eyewear, gloves, masks, hearing protection, etc.) for the assigned task
  • Able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time
