Your Impact:

As Assistant General Counsel, Dedrone, you are a dynamic legal leader with significant experience providing strategic guidance, consultation, and support on a broad spectrum of legal and compliance related issues affecting the business unit. The ideal candidate will have experience leading negotiations on complex contracts and have familiarity with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), you will work closely with the unit's executive team, advising on legal rights, obligations, and risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and managing the legal matters pertaining to Dedrone's business. Critically, you should bring a passion for technology, public safety and Axon’s mission to Protect Life.

What You’ll Do:

Location: Washington DC Area (DC, Maryland, Virginia)
Reports to: Chief Legal Officer
Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant General Counsel will serve as the dedicated legal advisor for Dedrone, the global leader in smart airspace security
  • Develop and lead legal strategy and corporate governance for the business unit to promote and protect its interests
  • Develop, drive, and enforce strong legal and compliance policies across the business unit with all applicable global laws and regulations
  • Partner with cross-functional Axon teams to protect and manage the business unit’s intellectual property portfolio
  • Manage and partner with external counsel to advise the Company on any litigation involving the business unit
  • Identify, manage, and develop strategies to mitigate enterprise risk for the business unit
  • Negotiate agreements and other legal documents specific to the business unit
  • Other duties as assigned by the CLO


What You Bring:

  • J.D. from an accredited institution with outstanding academic credentials
  • Admission to a State Bar within the United States
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience working for a top-tier law firm and/or in-house for a public company
  • Demonstrated legal expertise in handling complex legal matters, including corporate governance, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiation
  • Excellent writing, analytical, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of technology law, data privacy, cybersecurity, ITAR and related areas
  • Strong attention to detail and organization/prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a team and in a fast paced, dynamic team environment
  • Proficiency in managing IP portfolios and associated litigation
  • International legal experience and familiarity with global regulatory landscapes
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 220,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 350,000 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
